Meet Jayanti Kathale who took a pledge to provide Maharashtrian cuisine through World Famous Largest Maharashtrian Restaurant in the world

Motherly energy giving wings to her dreams took flight and started the journey of her uneasy dreams. This is the journey of a mother whose motherly feelings hurt and who gave up her well-paying job at Infosys to direct a long list of Maharashtrian dishes with true taste and culture with her civilization and culture.

Jayanti Kathale is the founder of Purnabrahma Maharashtrian Restaurant. With her determination, confidence, and passion for facing every obstacle unstoppably towards her path, she is successfully running 14 restaurants in India and abroad.

Jayanthi Kathale grew up in the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra. She has completed her post-graduation from MCA. She is a software engineer, and after completing her education, she worked as a project manager at Infosys in Bangalore. How did the journey from software engineer to entrepreneur begin?

It's been 19 years since she came to Bangalore from Nagpur in 2002 for a software engineering internship, and got a job here. After MCA post-graduation, companies came for recruitment in Nagpur College Campus and worked as Project Manager at Infosys Company.

In 2004, Pranav (husband) joined Wipro in Bangalore and after some time she also shifted to the same place. The initial months were good, but then they started craving the food which they have always eaten.

If they have the desire to eat Puranpoli, Basundi, Misal Pav, etc., all the dishes were not available anywhere in Bangalore, they call or ask Mom-Dad to make them themselves, but there was no option to buy them from outside.

In the name of Maharashtrian cuisine, only Vadapav or Pohe, which also lacked the right taste. Vadapav or Poha is not only a part of Maharashtrian cuisine culture but also a long series of dishes with a huge variety, of which no one is aware. All this was very disturbing, that someone should solve this problem, but then she thought why someone else and why she cannot do it.

An uproar was brewing in the mind, but this desire for change was not yet fully firm.

In 2006, her husband Pranav was transferred to Australia. There was also no option to eat your favorite food.

Her Husband Pranav had to go to Paris for work but being a complete vegetarian, there was nothing to eat, then she wrote her first love letter in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Dear Moni,

Tujhiko pathla vete, kya karu? Haven't eaten anything, very hungry. Will do the rest later.

And while writing the letter, a drop of tear dripped from his eyes, whose mark is still on that letter. Then this voice came from the heart that wherever they go, they get their favorite food there. Still had not chosen the path to go towards a big change.

While returning from Australia in 2008, while taking the boarding pass, they did not declare that they were vegetarian and during that entire flight, they had to rely only on fruits, bread, and butter for food. A journey of 27 hours in which the mother of a small child is dependent on her for their hunger.

It is a very painful situation for a mother and took a resolution that day. Where did the husband say that now only a restaurant of Maharashtrian food will open?

It took 3 years to prepare the complete menu. Maharashtrian food is vast. Each food has its own distinct taste and is divided according to different regions. Each dish has its own method and science of preparation.

Their Mummy-Daddy was taught to focus since childhood. Aaji (grandmother) had taught that the kitchen is like a science laboratory, where according to different Sutradhars, the cooks prepare food for their family and loved ones with the right formula.

The knowledge of the right Sutradhar had been there since then, keeping him in the forefront, the first restaurant of Maharashtrian food "Purnabrahma" was opened in 2012 with an area of 4500 square feet.

Poornabrahma is the given name of Aaji. Aaji had always taught that food is the complete Brahman. It was also a rule in the house that if any of the brothers and sisters left food in the utensil, then they had to wash everyone's utensils and the one who ate the entire meal would get ₹1. At that time, She did not know that these childhood values would become the value proposition of my business.

These are the rules of Purnabrahma, if a customer skips a meal, they will have to pay 2% more and a customer who eats a meal completely, is given a discount of 5% on the price of his meal.

Her education helped in her venture

Because She is a software engineer and knows how to design. Due to this, it was very easy to design the menu. Infosys had taught her to plan the work, then it was known that if the 'A' plan is not successful, then there are 26 alphabets to solve the plan. Learn to solve problems from IT only.

Raise money for her venture

According to her, family support is important, because there is a lot of difference between working in a company and starting your own company. She needed more time for Purnabrahma, due to which it was not possible to pay much attention at home. Striking this balance is also very important.

Now the plan was completely ready but where was the money. Husbands used to get bonuses every year, most of which we used to buy household items or go somewhere. First of all, she asked her husband for the bonus amount and he happily gave it to her. But this amount was not sufficient.

So earned money with the help of her sister-in-law and a friend and added some partners. Still, sufficient funds were not attached, so started with a small-scale pilot project, then someone told her that a loan can be taken under MSME.

Because she worked as a project manager at Infosys, she used to know how to prepare a plan. There was a CA for the financial planning, who prepared the financial documents and she prepared the plan of action.

In this way, the approval was received in 3 days and in 7 days Rs 75 lakh was deposited in the account.

Then she herself got the interior design done for Purnabrahma with minimum capital without any interior design specialist and the Purnabrahma of my dreams came into its own condition.

Along with good people, bad people also meet in life, similarly, she has also come across bad people, who came with the hypocrisy of the media. They started eating her business like termites. To remove such people, she had to put her jewelry and even her daughter's jewelry on loan. Employees' salaries were also stopped.

But never thought of retreating. Didn't give up, and apologized to the kids too because she wasn't able to give them enough time.

She was running toward her dreams. If she had stopped then maybe it would have had a bad effect on the children as well and they too might not crush their dreams.

The burden of dreams should never be put on others. If you want to live your dreams, then you have to work hard yourself.

She once got into a lot of trouble, but what she started is her own responsibility. The new source of women entrepreneurs that she created in society would have also stopped and the biggest thing for her was that the variety of Maharashtrian food that is available in a restaurant would also have lost its existence. She could never let this happen.

And no matter what happens, “behind every courtesy is Mahalakshmi”.

There are many unforgettable moments but the most satisfying moment is that one. A person infected with Covid was admitted to the hospital, and he was not allowed to talk to anyone.

He had a phone, in which he watched one of her videos and then made a video of himself. In which the person said that after watching the video of Jayanti Kathale, my desire to live has awakened. When will I get out of Covid? I will emerge with the strength to fulfill my dream. Oh God, don't let me die, because I still have to live my dreams.

Seeing this video of that person, She felt that she was on the right path and felt complete satisfaction.

Success is not a destination. This is one way. If you are walking on the path to success. Waking up with the rays of the sun every day. Every day where you have good people around you and you are among your loved ones. So you are successful. Always make sure that your hopes and faith are alive.

Once you decide to do something, just follow it and don't back down.

First of all, the question was why does the restaurant need a woman? Any man can handle

But it is not necessary to have only a group of men, it is also necessary to have a woman in that group. Women are not an option, they are a choice.

Troubles definitely came because, for those who have a fault in their eyes, even a fully covered woman looks exposed. Such people had to be slapped and explained, just as Burkha is the clothing provision for Muslim women, in the same way, Nauvari is the clothing provision for Marathi women.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of being a woman entrepreneur according to her?

First of all, we women are very emotional. Weep over small things. Without understanding their importance, they soon say, 'Mujhse na ho payega'.

Which is absolutely negative, there is no place in the Absolute Brahman for women with such thoughts.

If a man/boy takes 20l. If a man can lift a bucket of water, then certainly a woman/girl can also lift it.

“Never Measure Strength”

If a woman is going through menstruation in Purnabrahma, definitely someone can help her at that time.

One should not keep crying all the time. I don't have this, I don't have that, but make what you have a golden opportunity.

What is new in her restaurant that makes her different and unique from others?

They do not use soda, colors, and preservatives in their food. They test their employees by serving food before serving it to customers. They have music and water healing activities.

Future plans?

5000 Poornabrahma restaurants are to be opened all over the world. If foreign companies like Mcdonald's and Domino can open 17 to 18 thousand branches. Then 5 thousand must be indigenous.

Wherever there is a need, there must be a Purnabrahma restaurant.

Her biggest inspiration?

My son Parth and Infosys chief Sudha Murthy ma'am.

According to her, Family plays an important role in the life of every human being.

She completely agrees with this. Her family always supported her and gave wings to her dreams.

Her husband Pranav is her shark, who has always guided and taught her to be patient and take it easy. Surely the path to the destination will be visible in front of you.

Her mother and mother-in-law are the two biggest Mahalakshmi in her life. Who taught her from their experiences of being a working mothers to plan first and then follow it. Don't stop under any circumstances and don't stop anyone because of yourself.
