The struggle is that link of life that connects helplessness, difficulties, and failures with success. If the courage is high, then the difficulties automatically start dying. There is no doubt that whenever someone is surrounded by hopeless situations or difficulties, then no one becomes your support because it is your time, you have to be your own helper.
When the exam is yours, you have to pass or fail, then why would someone else sit in your exam instead of you? The struggle is another name for life, one who has crossed this path, then understands that success will come to you and difficulties will run away.
Kalpana Saroj is a successful female entrepreneur and an example of courage and hard work. Padma Shri Kalpana Saroj has faced many ups and downs in her life and has finally made her mark as a successful entrepreneur. Kalpana Saroj's life seems like a film story, but it is not a fictional story of the silver screen, it is a 100% true story of life's struggle.
Kalpana Saroj was born in 1961 in a poor Dalit family in Roparkheda, a small village in the Akola district of Maharashtra. Her father was a constable in the Maharashtra Police. Her father was the only earning member in the family, whose salary was only Rs.300. Was In which the entire family of her two brothers, three sisters, grandparents, and uncle used to spend. Being a police sergeant, her entire family lived in the police quarters.
Kalpana Saroj's education started in the government school of the village, she was smart in studies but due to being a Dalit, she had to face the neglect of teachers and classmates here too. There were no amenities in her village. After returning from school, she often had to collect cow dung work in the fields and also collect firewood.
Due to the dual customs of the society, at the age of just 12, when she was studying in 7th standard, she was forced to drop out and get married to an older boy. After marriage she moved to Mumbai where she had to live in a slum area. She had to face a lot of tortures in her in-laws' house, due to which her mentality was deeply affected.
They were beaten up on small things and were not even given food. After 6 months of marriage, her condition was very bad, in the meanwhile her father came to meet her and seeing her worse condition, her father took her back to the village with him. But due to the orthodoxy of the society, she found it painful to live and easy to die.
It is a strange tradition that the daughter of the society goes to her in-laws house in a doli and departs from there in a bier. If a daughter continues to suffer unbearable pain, then she is cultured, otherwise she is characterless. If she dies after tolerating oppression, how cruel were the in-laws, they just started cursing and after a few days everything was calm.
Why wait to die, instead of protesting. If the daughter comes back to the father's house after marriage, then this society starts criticizing that girl only. The same happened with Kalpana Saroj as well, and it became very difficult for her to withstand the pressure of the society.
Because of which she also tried to commit suicide. She bought three bottles of bedbug poison and drank all the three bottles together but her aunt saw her foaming at the mouth and shivering badly and took the help of the doctor and her life was saved.
After this incident, she understood that God has given her another chance and when she can die by doing something, then it is better to live by doing something. A new consciousness awakened in her mind and now the desire and faith to do something better has taken up residence in her mind.
After this incident, she tried to get a job in many places, but due to her young age and less education, she could not get any work. So once again she turned to Mumbai. At the age of 16, she came to her uncle in Mumbai.
She knew how to sew, so her uncle took her to work in a cloth mill, but despite knowing how to operate the machine, she could not operate the machine there, so she was given the job of cutting threads, for which Kalpana Used to get two rupees a day. For a few days she worked as a thread cutter but soon she was able to regain her confidence and then started operating the machine for which she was getting Rs.250 a month.
Meanwhile, due to the loss of her father's job, her entire family moved to Mumbai. With the passage of time, there was stability in her family, but an incident happened which shook her. Her sister died due to illness as there was not enough money for her treatment. Due to this incident, she got discouraged once, but at the same time realized that earning also plays an important role in this lifetime and slowly she got to know the entrepreneur hidden inside her.
She took a vow to eradicate poverty in her life. She installed some sewing machines in her small house and started working for 16-16 hours, her hard work and dedication is still intact. But she was not able to raise satisfactory money from sewing and then she decided to do business. But to start any business, an amount of money is required. To do business, she tried to take government grant, for which she thought of taking help from a person who used to get government grant to people, that person lived in her area.
Kalpana ji used to go and sit in front of her house every morning at 6 am. Many days passed, but she did not pay any attention to her, but even after one month, when Kalpana ji did not stop visiting her house, she was forced to talk to her. She came to know from the same person that if a loan of 50 thousand is required, then 10 thousand will have to be spent here and there.
But this thing was not acceptable to her, so she collected information about the government grants received by Dalits and Backwards and as soon as she understood the process of taking grants, she formed an organization with some people to deal with the problems related to it. Who used to tell people about government schemes and help in getting grants.
Along with this, she also started motivating people and women for self-employment. Through his organization, she did a lot of work for the benefit of the backward, tribals, children, the elderly and the weak, that is, all the weaker sections. In this way, while working selflessly, her image was established as a social worker.
Kalpana ji herself took a loan of Rs 50,000 under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule scheme being run by the Government of Maharashtra and started a furniture business at the age of 22, in which she got a lot of success and then she also opened a beauty parlour. She married second time to a steel furniture dealer. They had two children, a son and a daughter, whose upbringing was taken care of by Kalpanaji as her husband passed away in 1989.
Controversial land and great success in Kamani Tubes Limited Company on the strength of her understanding and ability
Kalpana ji got an offer to buy a land worth Rupees 2.5 lakh, but she did not have that much money, so that plot owner asked to give 1 lakh rupees first and later, Kalpana ji took 1 lakh rupees from her deposit and borrowed it to given to that person. But later they came to know that the land is disputed, and nothing can be built on it. She resolved all the matters related to that land by running around for one and a half to two years and that land of 2.5 lakhs became worth 50 lakhs.
In the year 2000, the labor union of Kamani Tubes Company, which was in debt of crores went to Kalpana ji and sought her help to revive that company.
The foundation stone of Kamani Tubes Company was laid in 1960 by Mr. NR Kamani. Initially the company ran well, but in 1985 the company was closed due to a dispute between the labor union and the operators. It was started again in 1988 as per the orders of the Supreme Court, but in a historic decision, the ownership of the company was given to the labor union. The labor union could not run it properly and the debt of crores went on coming to the company.
When Kalpana ji came to know that the company is in debt of 116 crores and 140 cases are going on, she refused, but when she was told that the future of 3500 laborers and their families depends on this company and many more The laborers are starving and begging, so finally she agreed.
She first formed a team of 10 people, which had experts from different fields. Then she prepared the report of the outstanding amount. In which she came to know that more than half of the loan owed by the company was penalty and interest. Kalpana ji met Finance Minister of that time and finance minister instructed the banks to have a meeting with Kalpana ji. He was impressed by Kalpana ji's talk and not only waived off the penalty and interest but also reduced the loan principal by 25%, appreciating the effort by a woman entrepreneur.
Kalpana ji was fighting for the company since 2000 and in 2006 the court made her the owner of Kamani Industries. As per the order of the court, she was instructed to repay the bank loan in 7 years, which she repaid in 1 year itself. The court also asked them to pay the arrears of wages to the laborers in three years, which they paid within three months. With the patience and right strategy of Kalpana Saroj ji, today Kamani Tubes has become a company of more than 500 crores.
For this great achievement, she was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013 and despite having no banking background, the government included her on the Board of Directors of Bharatiya Mahila Bank.
The story of Kalpana Saroj ji inspires every class that if there is determination in the intentions and patience to understand the circumstances, then both circumstances and luck can be changed.
