She joined the DRDO missile research facility, Research Center Imarat (RCI) on a contract basis in the same year 1997, and by 2001 Shashikala Sinha became a full-time scientist at RCI.

Shashikala Sinha worked on the development of the 'RF Sensor Subsystem', for which her team was awarded the Agni Award for Excellence in 2007. In 2012, she became the Project Director of the Advanced Air Defense Program.

Got the responsibility of leading a team of about 300 scientists till 2017. She has expertise in the development of aircraft, radomes, and radar cross-sections.

It was for the first time that a woman scientist, Dr. Shashikala Sinha, also known as the 'New Missile Woman', successfully conducted a highly complex test for the country.

On 28 December 2017, the 'AAD' interceptor missile was successful in achieving a direct hit on an incoming ballistic missile at an altitude of 15 km. The indigenous missile shield with the Russian S-400 air defense systems is likely to provide protection from enemy missile attacks.

The indigenous BMD is a two-layer missile defense system that can intercept enemy ballistic missiles in both space and Earth's atmosphere.

Indigenously developed by DRDO, the AAD interceptor is a single-stage missile propelled by solid propellant. The interceptor is a 7.5-meter long single-stage solid rocket-propelled guided missile equipped with a navigation system, hi-tech computer, and electro-mechanical activator. The state-of-the-art interceptor missile has its own mobile launcher, secure data link for interception, independent tracking and homing capabilities, and sophisticated radar.

As project director, Shashikala Sinha led the test flight of the BMD on 1 March 2018, from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast, which demonstrated its ability to launch a missile that could intercept an incoming missile and put it in endo - Can destroy the atmosphere.
