Female scientist N Valarmathi gave voice to Chandrayaan - 3 countdown for the last time.

Scientist N Valaramathi was the voice behind the countdown counting of many ISRO launches including Chandrayaan 3.

On July 14, the Chandrayaan-3 mission was launched from Sriharikota Satish Dhawan Space Center in Andhra Pradesh.

The counting before firing a rocket is called a countdown.

This countdown was the last countdown of the lifetime of woman scientist Valarmathi. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientist Valarmathi passed away due to a heart attack on Saturday, September 2, 2023.

She was the project director of RISAT-1, India's first radar imaging satellite.

According to ISRO, PRO N Valaramathi was part of the Range Operations Program Office at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

N Valaramathi was part of the launch of the DS-SAR remote sensing satellite on July 30 on a PSLV C56 rocket.

She was also supposed to lend her voice in the countdown of the C57 rocket of the Aditya L1 spacecraft launched on September 2, but this was not possible.

N Valaramathi was awarded the Abdul Kalam Award in the year 2015. She was the first person to receive this award.


Life introduction

N Valaramathi was born on 31 July 1959 in Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu. She did her early education at Nirmala Girls Higher Secondary School.

She graduated in engineering from the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. and obtained a master's degree in Electronics and Communication from Anna University.

N Valaramathi joined ISRO in the year 1984. She has been a part of many projects like - INSAT 2A, IRS IC, IRS ID, TES.

N Valaramathi was the project director of RISAT-1, the country's first indigenous Radar Imaging Satellite (RIS) and the country's second satellite. Which was successfully launched in 2012.

In ISRO she was T.K. Anuradha, Project Director the second woman to head a prestigious project after GSAT-12-2011.

N Valaramathi received the Abdul Kalam Award in the year 2015. She was the first woman to receive this award. The award was instituted by the Government of Tamil Nadu in honor of former President Abdul Kalam.

N Valaramathi did the countdown for the last time in the Chandrayaan-3 launch. She was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai due to ill health. And on 2 September 2023, Saturday evening, she died due to cardiac arrest.

ISRO told on 2 September 2023, that Pragyan Rover has completed its work. It is now safely parked and set to sleep mode. Both the payloads APXS and LIBS onboard are now decommissioned. Data from these payloads has been transmitted to Earth through the lander.
